Matthew Niederhauser is a freelance photojournalist based in Beijing
for the year leading up to the Summer Olympics in 2008. Although he
graduated from Columbia University, he also worked as an assistant teacher at the International Center of Photography and published his work on NYtimes.com and in AM New York.

Matthew now contributes to a variety of magazines while working on
his ongoing documentary projects concerning urban development and
underground music in China. Most importantly, after shooting and
studying photography for over ten years, he has a keen critical eye
and greatly enjoys working in the classroom with students developing
their own vision and approach to photography. His work can be seen at
