Do you want to learn to express yourself in the art of film?  To give a professional quality to everything you shoot?  Are you looking to bring more creativity and artistry into your videos?  Do you want to learn to edit effectively?  Do you dream about making movies or competing in film festivals?  Whether you are an aspiring filmmaker or an amateur who just wants to produce professional-quality video, this unique course will help you to gain the skills, confidence, and creative sensibility to get the job done right.  This program is a concentration of 10 years of industry experience by a self-made freelance director working in movies, corporate videos, documentaries, and short-movies -- for television, production companies, and the advertising industry in Paris, Taipei, Tokyo and, nowadays, in Shanghai.

This course will teach you how to improve your technique and get the most out of your digital camcorder (Hi8, miniDV, DVD or HD) by providing valuable insights into camera operation, manual camera controls, shutter speeds, apertures and focal lengths, frame composition, lighting controls, and accessories.  We will also cover preparation, choosing your gear and filling your bag like a pro, moving and operating effectively in the field, relating efficiently with production members and others, and getting the most out of the topic you are shooting.  This fun and intensive program will provide the student with a professional mindset as we work together as a crew to write a script, prepare transitions, direct actors, build frames, record sounds, and edit a complete project with title and effects.  Students will gain an understanding of professional practices for a short dramatic narrative, documentary, news, experimental, or music video for possible submission to a festival or competition.

On the budgetary and technical sides, students will get a complete overview of the equipment needed along with practical advice for saving money and choosing the most appropriate tools to meet your objectives.  Students should bring a working digital camcorder or be prepared to purchase (or borrow) one after consultation with the instructor.

When filling in the registration form, please indicate the type of camera you are working with.
