Need inspiration? Feedback? A deeper
bag of tricks for your writing? This class is for you! Learn how to grab
your reader from the first page and create unforgettable characters in
this workshop designed for the first-time novelist, short-story, memoir
or script writer. Jump-start your muse and improve your craft through a
series of writing exercises, workshop-style discussions, and reading
assignments, as you learn to find and refine your unique voice and
cultivate your creativity. In this course, you will have an opportunity
to revise and tighten your narrative through workshop-style instruction
where you will receive constructive feedback about your writing. Discover and develop your own artistic process, learning how to find
your inspiration, develop concrete goals, and cultivate a sense of play
in your writing. We will also look at several fiction pieces that allow
for further exploration of voice, imagery, tone, characterization,
structure, and language. Learn to develop the peaks and valleys, twists
and turns that make for a compelling plot as well as chapter structuring
for maximum effect. In addition, you'll learn about the market, what
publishers and agents expect from you and your manuscript, and how to
get published. Students can write short stories, memoirs, scripts, and
mini-screenplays with the help of the instructor. Underlying all of your
writing in this class is the goal of giving expression to the author
within, one that is unique, compelling, and real.
