Learn how to get the most out of your equipment and develop a keener eye at the same time. The goal of this course is to teach the amateur photographer how to think and work like a pro without compromising fun and creativity. This course focuses on learning important manual camera operations to have better control over your camera and final image output. We will clarify questions on light sensitivity, camera operation, shutter speeds, apertures, focal lengths, and reading your light meter. You will also learn the importance of composition, depth of field, and selective focus to make a more interesting image. We will introduce you to new ways of seeing by experimenting with basic visual principals such as color, line, shape, form, and texture. All techniques from manual camera controls to digital post-production enhancement are included, as well as the hardware and software skills you need for uploading and producing outstanding digital photographs.

Students will also learn about well-known fine art photographers to help develop their creative eye. Along with learning about other photographers work you will learn how to photograph different types of photography such as landscape, portrait, abstract, and night photography. Both professional photography lectures and hands-on workshops provide valuable insights into frame composition, using accessories, and lighting controls. On the whole, you will learn to resolve technical, aesthetic, and conceptual issues while creating a personal project through a series of images processed on the computer and viewed within a supportive classroom environment. Students should bring a working digital SLR camera that can be switched to manual to the first session, or be prepared to purchase (or borrow) one after consultation with the instructor. Students also need to bring a laptop to class for postproduction work. Students are responsible for installing any software needed for the class.

This course will also include a wealth of invaluable learning materials such as Photography E-Books, Tutorials, and Software, which will be provided throughout the course by your instructor.
